4 Tasty Italian Desserts That Are Perfect for Winter

Panna Cotta — While you are not likely to find Panna Cotta in Italian cookbooks before the 1960s, it is often referred to as a traditional and authentic dessert of Piedmont, a northern Italian region. Panna cotta, Italian for cooked cream, is a delicious Italian dessert consisting of sweetened cream that is thickened using gelatin and poured into a dish to mold. Depending on the recipe, the cream might be flavored with coffee, vanilla, lemon, or another flavor. However, the panna cotta found at Sicilia Mia is made using a classic recipe with our own personal twist by topping the mouthwatering dessert with exotic, seasonal fruit.

Chocolate Cake — You don’t have to travel far to find chocolate cake. However, our authentic Italian chocolate cake will change your mind about all other chocolate cakes—be sure to give Nonna’s homemade chocolate cake a try. There’s something special about a rich and satisfying piece of chocolate cake on a snowy winter night, trust us!

Tiramisu — This coffee-flavored dessert is probably one of the first desserts that come to mind when you think about Italy, and for good reason. Tiramisu is made up of ladyfingers dipped in coffee and is layered with a whipped mixture of sugar, eggs, mascarpone cheese, and chocolate. The name “tiramisu” comes from the Italian word tiramisù, translating to “pick me up” or “cheer me up” — and that it will! This delectable dessert dates back to the 1960s in the Veneto region in Italy. Our recipe is straight from our sweet Nonna’s kitchen, adding just a touch of egg nog and homage biscotti.

Cannoli — One of the oldest Italian desserts is the cannoli. This favorite treat originates in Palermo, and as a family that also comes from Palermo, we take pride in the dessert. We hand make each pastry shell and proudly use our famous house-made ricotta in our creamy filling.
